Settings
Every page in Goldfish's Settings, and what each control does.
Settings opens from the chat panel or the tray icon. The sidebar lists the pages below, with a Quit Goldfish button and the app version at the bottom.
Account
Manage your subscription and account.
- Signed in as: the email of the signed-in account. Signed out, this page shows a Sign in button instead.
- Plan: Free, Goldfish Pro, or Founding member. Founding members have full access, on the house.
- Manage subscription: opens the billing portal (shown on a paid plan). Otherwise the button reads Upgrade to Pro and opens checkout.
- Change password: current, new, and confirmed new password. Signed in with Google? There is no password to change.
- Sign out.
Privacy
- Accessibility (macOS): shows whether the permission is granted. It is required, this is how Goldfish reads on-screen text to build your memory. A Re-grant button appears when the grant is missing or broken.
- Microphone: shows the microphone permission status. Only needed when voice dictation is on.
- Delete all data: permanently deletes your entire Goldfish memory, database, and identity. You type “yes” to confirm, and there is no undo.
- The page also explains the privacy model, with the same diagram shown on the Privacy page here in the docs.
Appearance
Customize text, the top bar, and fish behavior.
- Aquarium text size: scales messages, suggestions, notifications, and composer text, from 100% (default) to 150%.
- Aquarium position: where the bar lives on screen. Top (notch, the default), left edge, right edge, bottom edge, bottom-left corner, or bottom-right corner. Edges rest as a thin line, corners as a small box.
- Open on hover (default on): open the aquarium when the cursor presses against its screen edge. When off, open it by clicking the bar, the fish, the Goldfish key, or the tray icon.
- Auto-hide top bar (default off): hide the bar until the cursor presses against the panel’s screen edge.
- Dim top bar when not focused (default off): lets the glass fall to its dimmer look when the bar is not focused. May lower energy use. Takes effect after a restart.
- Dock fish in aquarium: calls the fish back to the chat bar.
Identity
Your personal profile, the one Goldfish uses to personalize responses and write in your voice. Edit it directly here, or ask Goldfish in chat to update it. Changes take effect on the next retrieval.
Memory
The people, projects, and topics Goldfish has picked up from your activity, as browsable wiki pages. Built automatically.
- Filter chips: all, person, project, topic, tool, org.
- Page view: each page shows a summary, the write-up, connected pages, and when the subject was last seen.
- Something off? Ask Goldfish in chat to correct it.
Notifications
- Proactive messages (default on): the morning brief, the end-of-day wrap, occasional context tips, and scheduled reminders. Turn this off and Goldfish sends nothing unprompted; chat keeps working as usual.
Community
Links to the communities: Discord, Slack, and Reddit, plus the creators’ LinkedIn and X profiles.
MCP
Connect other AI apps to your Goldfish memory. Goldfish connects itself to apps like Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Claude Code automatically; for anything else, this page shows the command to add as a local (stdio) MCP server, with a Copy button. Details on the Claude and other AI clients page.
Bug report
- Report a bug: opens the bug report form.
- Open logs folder: opens Goldfish’s local logs. Including logs in a report helps pin the bug down faster.
Shortcuts
Each shortcut row has a key display (click it to record a new key) and an on/off toggle.
- Activate goldfish (default on): the Goldfish key. Right Option on Mac, right Shift on Windows, right Command on Japanese keyboards.
- Chord (default on): the fallback chord, Cmd+Shift+G by default.
- Voice dictation (default off): the dictation key, fn (globe) by default on Mac. Turning this on is what makes the microphone permission relevant.
- Sound effects (default on): ambience and a chime during inline rewrites, and a tick when dictation starts and stops.
The full defaults table lives on the Shortcuts page.
Tutorials
- YouTube: opens the tutorials playlist.
- Replay onboarding: runs the interactive tutorial again from the start.
