Hold the dictation key and speak; release to insert clean, punctuated text
into whatever field has focus. Turn dictation on and pick the key on the
Voice dictation page in Settings.

## Hands-free mode

Two ways to latch the microphone so it stays open without holding the key:

- **Double-tap** the dictation key.
- **Add left Control** while holding the key.

Either one also sends the text when you are done. Press the dictation key
again to release.

## Dictation and edit mode

Dictation feeds edit mode too: hold the Goldfish key with dictation enabled
and speak the instruction instead of typing it. Details are on the
[Edit mode](/guides/edit-mode) page.

Dictation needs the microphone permission. Goldfish asks the first time you
use it.
